In England and Wales after 1 October 2008 an energy performance certificate (EPCs) will be required for all commercial buildings when they are offered for sale or letting.
EPCs are not required for existing buildings which are not being offered for sale or rent.
In Scotland EPCs will be required after 4 January 2009 for the sale or leasing of all commercial buildings.
In Northern Ireland EPCs will be required from 1 January 2009 for the sale or leasing of all commercial buildings.
Display Energy Certificates
Some commercial buildings are required to have a display energy certificate (DEC) on show to visitors. For more on DECs please see questions 14 and 15 below.
