Communities

Being a good corporate citizen is about making a positive contribution to the communities in and around which we work.

As a company we do this in many ways, from funding good causes to encouraging volunteering by our employees.

We believe we can make a clear, long-lasting difference by focusing on three themes that typify us as a business:

  • education
  • leadership
  • the built environment

We increasingly align our community investment programme with these themes.

Colliers Green Focus  launched 2007

Colliers Green Focus is an innovative project that helps children understand environmental change and sustainable development in their local area through the use of photography. The project revolves around a programme of workshops and exhibitions which will be rolled out over the next three school years and embedded in the geography curriculum for 11-14 year olds. A permanent teaching resource will be created and made available to students and teachers.

This project is our flagship community initiative to significantly assist sustainability teaching in 30 schools across the country and we are undertaking it in partnership with the Photographers' Gallery and the Royal Geographical Society.

More details can be found on the Green Focus website.

Staff development

Our main staff development programme explores the practicalities of sustainability within a schools-based community investment initiative and has been running since 2007. Our partner in this programme is the New Start Trust (NEST), a charity working with communities in the developing world on the building of new sustainable homes.

Together, NEST and Colliers CRE have been running a series of development days based at primary schools near our regional offices. The days involve our staff and some of our key clients in building eco-playhouses for use by the children, holding workshops with the children on climate change issues and fundraising for NEST. Over £70,000 has been raised to date to build sustainable homes for orphaned children in developing countries, representing a significant boost to NEST’s ability to make a difference.

Chartered Surveyors Training Trust

Our support for this trust helps young people embark on a career in surveying who would not otherwise have had the opportunity to do so.

Give As You Earn

We offer this scheme to all employees and encourage active involvement in fundraising, for example through our support for the annual cycle ride.

All activities are overseen by our Charities Committee and guided by our Community Investment Policy (PDF 32KB).
